Over fifty years of experience in woodworking

Gori Cornici is an Italian company based in Sesto Fiorentino, specialising in the production of solid wood mouldings and profiles for windows, doors, and interior and exterior finishes.

Founded as a small Florentine craft business, the company has grown over the years to become a trusted partner for window and door professionals, joineries, architects, and companies in the construction and interior design sectors. Its production includes architraves for windows and doors, skirting boards, and finishing elements, with particular expertise in pre-lacquered window architraves featuring a sanded white primer, designed for professional exterior coating.

Product quality begins with the choice of raw materials. Gori Cornici uses only FSC- and PEFC-certified wood from responsibly managed forests. This choice reflects a clear vision: sustainability is not an optional extra, but a value embedded throughout the entire production process.

Towards more sustainable coating

This commitment is reflected in the path the company has undertaken to progressively reduce the use of solvent-based coatings in systems for lacquered wood profiles used in windows and doors.

The aim was to adopt water-based solutions capable of reducing environmental impact while maintaining high aesthetic and performance standards. The transition to a new coating technology required significant research and development work.

The coating systems needed to ensure excellent adhesion to solid wood, resistance to weathering and moisture, compatibility with highly productive automated lines, and a uniform, carefully finished surface.

A long-standing partnership with ICA

To meet this challenge, Gori Cornici was able to rely on its long-standing partnership with ICA. The two companies have long shared the same commitment to research, innovation, product quality, and the continuous improvement of production processes.

Water-based coating systems specifically designed for lacquered wood profiles used in exterior windows and doors were introduced to meet the company’s requirements. Primers, basecoats, and topcoats were developed to ensure effective adhesion to solid wood, a uniform and smooth white surface ready for the customer’s subsequent coating, and performance suited to exterior applications.

Alpa also contributed to the project, supporting Gori Cornici in optimising the industrial coating process. The system also underwent chemical and physical testing by the Performance Lab of The Sherwin-Williams Company in accordance with UNI 11717-2:2019 for wooden windows and doors.

The introduction of ICA water-based solutions made it possible to reduce Volatile Organic Compound emissions, helping to limit the environmental impact of production and improve workplace health and safety.

Optimising the system also improved the continuity and consistency of the production process, with controlled drying times and less waste caused by application issues.

The tests confirmed the performance of the coated profiles in terms of mechanical, chemical, and weather resistance. The aesthetic result also meets the requirements of the professional market, thanks to a uniform, smooth white primer free from surface defects and compatible with the finish subsequently applied by the customer.

A partnership focused on the future

“The partnership between Gori Cornici and ICA dates back to the 1980s. However, it was with the arrival of water-based coatings that this relationship became even closer and more strategic. The introduction of a coating system completely different from traditional polyurethane systems represented a major technological change and required intensive research and development by both companies. Thanks to this synergy, it was possible to develop innovative products and application processes that had previously been unexplored in our production environment. ICA succeeded in developing solutions perfectly compatible with our production requirements, making a decisive contribution to the success of the project.” Marcello Gori, founder of Gori Cornici

The partnership between Gori Cornici and ICA demonstrates how sustainability, production efficiency, and quality can move in the same direction.

A shared journey built on research and continuous improvement, enhancing wood, optimising processes, and looking to the future through practical, high-performance solutions.
